The San Antonio Botanical Gardens recently announced plans to begin expansion of their grounds this summer. The Botanical Gardens has acquired over 8 acres of land adjacent to their existing site. Construction of the first phase of this nearly $17 million expansion will begin this summer. Expansion plans include a new Welcome & Discovery Center with classrooms, culinary garden and outdoor kitchen, addition of 150 parking spaces, and a family adventure area.

Funding came from the garden’s GROW capital campaign and received significant contributions from H-E-B, Ewing Halsell Foundation, and the Mays Family Foundation.

The expansion is expected to drive increased visits to the gardens. The renovated gardens will join several other cultural institutions along Broadway: the soon to be opened DoSeum, The Witte Museum which is currently under a multi-million dollar renovation, and the San Antonio Museum of Art which recently acquired additional property from CPS to expand.
