Freetail Brewery Expanding Operations

Freetail Brewing Co., a San Antonio local craft brewery, opened the doors to their brewpub in 2006.  Their original 1604 location is where all of their brewing currently takes place.  In light of recent Texas Legislation reform, SB515, allowing brewpubs to sell their product for wholesale distribution, Freetail is expanding their operations.

Construction is underway of Freetail 2, a 30,000 square foot brewery at 2000 S. Presa.  Once complete, the $3 million facility is expected to produce approximately 10,000 barrels per year with space to expand. The existing warehouse has had electric and infrastructure improvements to accommodate the demand of brewing on such a scale.  As the brewing company expands, found Scott Metzger has said, ‘A lot of breweries start out and expand to as many markets as possible.  We want to do the opposite by focusing on our hometown and become the first thing people think of when it comes to craft beer in San Antonio.’  The facility is visible from I-35, and local artist, Bruce Pena has been commissioned to brand the side of the building with Freetail’s logo.

Freetail is one example of many brewpubs expanding operation, creating an economic impact, as a result of the recent legislation.  Freetail has partnered with Silver Eagle Distributers to distribute their product.  The facility is expected to be operational by the end of the year.
