Dozens of retail centers have opened close to the Alamo Ranch master-planned community. Large businesses, such as H-E-B, Santikos Theatres, and Wells Fargo, and healthcare providers Baptist Health System and Christus Santa Rosa all have made significant investments in the area in recent years.

The Express-News reported that Methodist Healthcare has yet to announce what it has planned for its currently vacant property on the far West Side. The healthcare system is in the final year of expanding its main hospital facility in the Medical Center.
