As anyone driving to or through downtown can witness, there is a lot of activity at Pearl. Southerleigh Fine Food & Brewery recently opened in the Pearl Brewery building and is one of the largest brewpubs in the nation. The brewpub features 15 barrels, 6 serving tanks, and a variety of wood barrels for aging. An original grain silo is being transformed into a private dining room for special events. As with all renovations at Pearl there extensive attention to historic detail with the finish out of the space for Southerleigh. Other then Fire Marshal required cuts in the original 18-inch thick brick façade, all window and door locations are original. Once complete, Southerleigh will connect to Hotel Emma, which is expected to be open by the end of the year, and will have an additional restaurant within it.
The Cellars are under construction adjacent to Southerleigh. These high-end apartments will have a dedicated parking garage and direct physical access to Hotel Emma. The units are being built to for-purchase standards with the potential to one day become condos.
The Bottling House is also in development stages. A proposed single story building will replicate the façade of the original Pearl bottling building that was lost to fire several years ago. Preliminary plans are for a several restaurant or retail users on the ground floor with a jazz bar in the basement.
