The latest edition to The Pearl’s 22-acre re-development is a boutique hotel, Hotel Emma, in the former brew house.  The 146-room hotel has been designed by Roman & Williams and will be managed by Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants. “Kimpton is the recognized leader in adaptive reuse development projects such as this,” said Elizabeth Fauerso, Chief Marketing Officer at Pearl. “San Antonio is already emerging as a hot destination for culinary travel, and Kimpton has a great reputation for both chef-driven restaurants, creative services and amenities and warm, personal service that will take the Pearl experience to a whole new level.” The hotel at Pearl will be the fourth hotel for Kimpton in Texas, joining the Hotel Lumen and the Hotel Palomar in Dallas, and Hotel Van Zandt, opening in Austin later this year.

The namesake, Emma Koehler, was the wife of Pearl Brewery founder Otto Koehler.  Emma is credited for keeping the brewery operational during prohibition after Otto’s death by converting operations to alternative functions; a dry cleaner, production of near-beer.  Under Emma’s leadership, Pearl rolled out kegs and cases of beer at 12:01 am on September 15, 1933.
